Saint Dominic, our founder, lived under the Rule of Saint Augustine as a canon before being called from the cloister to preach. He would later adopt the same Rule for the whole Order of Preachers, including the nuns, hence we traditionally honor Saint Augustine with the title “Holy Father”.
The form of life presented in the Rule is profoundly shaped by Saint Augustine’s theology and is intended to image the communion of the Holy Trinity.
