As Nuns of the Order of Preachers, in union our brothers the Dominican Friars, we follow the Gospel way of life given us by our Holy Father Saint Dominic. The form that life now takes, 800 years after the establishment of the Order, is presented to us in the Book of the Constitutions of the Nuns of the Order of Preachers. It is a liturgical life, lived in common, as a unique way of following Christ.
The various practices that constitute our way of life are called the "observances". These include all the elements that make up our day to day life as we seek to follow, and grow in union with Jesus Christ in and through every aspect of our lives.
Outstanding among these observances are:
We seek to draw close to Mary, to imitate her and to be drawn into her fiat; to embrace lives of sacrifice and adoration; to be conformed by the Holy Spirit to Jesus in his loving obedience to the Father as Savior of the world.
"There is indeed a diversity of gifts, but one and the same Spirit, one charity, one mercy. The friars, sisters and laity of the Order are "to preach the name of our Lord Jesus Christ throughout the world"; the nuns are to seek, ponder and call upon him in solitude so that the word proceeding from the mouth of God may not return to him empty, but may accomplish those things for which it was sent (cf. Is 55:10)."

In order to be faithful to the observances of the Common Life, Liturgical and Private Prayer, Study and the Vows,
we are helped by other observances such as:
Silence, Enclosure, The Habit, Work, and Penitential Practices
