As nuns of the Order of Preachers, we follow the gospel way of life given us by our Holy Father Saint Dominic. The form that life now takes, 800 years after the establishment of the Order, is presented to us in the Book of the Constitutions of the Nuns of the Order of Preachers. We seek to imitate Mary and to be drawn into her fiat; to embrace lives of sacrifice and adoration; to be conformed by the Spirit to Jesus in his loving obedience to the Father for the life of the world.
The various practices that foster our growth in our Marian, Eucharistic and theological way of life, and thus in faith, hope and charity, are called the observances. These include all the elements that make up our day to day life as we seek to follow, and grow in union with Jesus Christ in and through every aspect of our lives. Here are some of them:
There is indeed a diversity of gifts, but one and the same Spirit, one charity, one mercy. The friars, sisters and laity of the Order are "to preach the name of our Lord Jesus Christ throughout the world"; the nuns are to seek, ponder and call upon him in solitude so that the word proceeding from the mouth of God may not return to him empty, but may accomplish those things for which it was sent (cf.
